Kaad Chued directly means "binding rope on fists". Basically, a material to make bound fist is small rough hemp threads. The hemp skeins were bound on warrior's hands around fingers, palms, backs and wrists in order to strengthen fists like a powerful weapon. The skein length is approximately 20 meters long for adequate binding. However, a fighter occasionally used longer hemp threads to twist and bind from fists until elbows. Furthermore, acients usually reinforced fist binding with Gon Hoi or "whorls"- rough and hard fabrics were formed to be coils. These coils were inserted between knuckles and hemp skeins. Typically, there were four Gon Hoi on each hand and it made more potential attack comparing with plain binding. When the time of engaging came, warrior prepared themselves for efficient status with let bound fists and Gon Hoi became harden so that it can make a more serious result. Beside, further knowledge was used in order to provide heavy and accurate impact such as mixing additional substances in a raw hemp thread. For example, a sticky solution with tiny glass can make wound easily with its sharp edge. In other words, fist binding was equal to weaponry for applying this powerful martial art in battlefield |
